Location of the Far Boathouse

The boathouse is on the north of Ullswater Lake about 3 miles from Pooley Bridge and 3 miles from the Aria Falls.

Down a private lane, next to the lakeside, surrounded at the back by a number of large trees providing a truly private and peaceful setting.

Directions to the Far Boathouse

By SatNav:

Enter CA11 0JH which will take you to Watermillock on the A592. When you reach CA11 0JH, enter CA11 0JJ and continue carefully along the A592 for a few hundred meters looking for the turn in on the left ( the same side of the road that Ullswater lake is on) ( Please see Pictures below to see exactly the turn off entrance to the access lane. ). Follow the lane for 1000 meters or so until you see the gate and sign for Far Boathouse. You’ve reached Far Boathouse on Ullswater!

By Road:

From M6/Penrith/Eden area: Turn off the M6 (J40) at Penrith travel west along the A66 for a couple of minutes, at the roundabout, follow signs for A592 to Watermillock. After about 10 minutes drive, at Watermillock, continue on the A592 carefully looking for the turn in on the left. ( Please see Pictures to see exactly the turn off entrance to the access lane. ) Then follow the private lane for 1000 meters or so until you see the gate and sign for Far Boathouse.You’ve reached Far Boathouse on Ullswater!

This places is unbelievable. Beautiful. Stunning or as they say in Wales LUSH! Janye is your perfect landlord/host. She decorated it perfectly for us. It was so magical I got down on one knee! And he said yes. We survived the storm too. We’re going back next Feb!

Feel so privileged to have spent 4 nights at the Far Boathouse. It’s a magical place that really can’t be described, it’s something you need to experience. The boathouse has everything you need, is comfy, warm, clean and has views to die for. Thank you for making this trip such a special one

The Far Boathouse has to be the number one place to stay on the shore of Ullswater. Tucked away down a private track the boathouse is complete in its inventory, classically furnished, and with a view which will not be surpassed. Looking across, up, and down Ullswater, the picture changes whichever way you look. Given the landscape, add the birds, swans, ducks, boats, steamers, otters, fish and the ever changing weather, and this is a recipe for endless enjoyment. We did not move the car during our stay, we used the local bus service and the steamers to allow us to walk much of the lakeside and a couple of fells, with many more to add!

The Boathouse is wonderfully designed so you can sit all day watching out over the lake from the enormous sofa, or of course from the balcony if the weather is on your side. The whole place is beautifully and thoughtfully equipped with everything one might need to be cosy and comfortable. Even on the busiest of weekends it was quiet and private. Being right on the lake was a joy for a swimmer and the enormous shower had plenty of space for hanging costumes to dry. I cant wait to go back!

Wow! Words are hard to find that do justice to The Far Boathouse experience. As it truly takes you to another place, from its idyllic evocative tranquil location, to its delightfully well-equipped and elegantly appointed interior. It really is the most perfect get-away-from-it-all experience. I’ve been fortunate to have experience much of the world, often having to travel many thousands of miles to escape, however, just 4½ hrs drive from London here lies an oasis of calm!! My only perhaps regret in writing this review, is that others will now flock to the Boathouse and bookings will become significantly harder!!
